March/April news

Howdy folks!

I hope every one is gearing up for spring. The farm is coming alive! I have lettuce coming up that will be ready to harvest in late May, and the onions are growing. I will be at the Ashe County Farmer's Market opening day (April 21st) with fresh sausage, free-range eggs, whole ham shoulders for family get-togethers, pork chops, tenderloin, and whole loins.

I have new pullets that are 3 months old - Delawares, Light Brahmas, Rhode Island Reds, and Buff Orpingtons, all of which were hatched and vaccinated at Murray McMurray Hatchery. Chickens are for sale from the farm. I also have Muscovy Ducks, so expect duck eggs at the market as they are available.

All the fruit trees on the farm bloomed, but the freeze hit 2 days later, and all was lost here, just as it was over much of the southeast. However, the Ashley orchard that I lease had not yet bloomed, and I expect a bountiful crop of apples from there.

I'm sorry about the intermittent phone service - the problem has been fixed, and I hope to hear from you soon. Remember, the new number is 336-977-2535 (please call after 7 PM if possible on weekdays). Emailing still works, too, at ann@rosemountainfarm.com
