WHAT: Shiitake Mushroom Log Inoculation Workshop

WHY: To educate and provide hands-on instruction for growing shiitake mushrooms
A shiitake mushroom inoculation and cultivation workshop will be held in Ashe County on Wednesday, March 8, from 2:00 PM - 6:30 PM. The workshop will showcase the details of outdoor, log-grown shiitake mushroom production at Rose Mountain Farm, a diversified organic farm in Lansing, NC. Speakers will include Dr. Omon Isikhuemhen of NCA&T State University, Richard Boylan of NC Cooperative Extension, and Ann Rose of Rose Mountain Farm. The workshop is free and open to everyone interested in growing shiitake mushrooms. It is requested that participants please cut and bring three 4-foot logs of their own to the workshop for practice inoculation, if possible.
Pre-registration is required to assure that there are sufficient materials. To register, please call the Ashe County Cooperative Extension Center at 336-219-2650.
Ann Rose will be available to answer questions throughout the day about sustainable agriculture and organic farming, and welcomes all members of the community to attend.
