Howdy Folks,
Hope that all the Rose Mountain Farm readers are well and warm this month. All is well on the farm and the critters are tucked in for a cold snap (still waiting).
This week we are doing some selective logging with horses and my mule. I have several large pines that have stolen my grass from the horses, so we will be taking those to the sawmill. We expect clear skies for the event but chilly air.
My helpers - Eann and Josh - are getting started in the natural logging business, and I would like to pass along their contact information for any of you who would like to contact them. I will, of course, need their permission, so I will forward that to anyone who is interested in sustainable logging.
Please remember to RSVP if you are planning on attending the Shiitake Log Inoculation Workshop on March the 8th at 2 pm. Pre-registration is required to assure that there are sufficient materials. To register, please call the Ashe County Cooperative Extension Center at 336-219-2650. Remember to bring 3 of your own fresh cut oak logs (two to take home, and one to leave for research for the NC mushroom project). If you can not bring logs, come anyway and learn how to grow your own mushrooms and cultivate a new income. All RSVP's will be e-mailed a map to the farm, or you can click on the contact page and find us on Mapquest. I look forward to seeing all of you here, and I'm excited that our guest speakers will be Dr. Omon Isikhuemhen from NCA&T, and Richard Boylan of the Ashe Ag Extension. Meanwhile, the vegetable plans continue to grow, and the request list is near completion, so if you have not put in a request for a specific vegetable yet, please hurry. I must locate seeds by next week for this year's order.
